A man wanted by the FBI for 23 years has turned himself in. Wayne Arthur Silsbee has been running from police after he reportedly sexually assaulted dozens of young girls aged between 8 and 10 years in Oregon.
He has managed to evade authorities for all these years but Friday the now 62-year-old man walked into the Oregon Police department and handed himself over to the FBI, CNN reported.
Silsbee is believed to have sexually assaulted his victims, who he knew through babysitting or from escorting them to various events, between the months of September 1995 and April 1996. In July 1996, a local arrest warrant was obtained charging him with first degree sodomy, first degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a minor, and first degree unlawful sexual penetration. Two months later the FBI obtained a federal arrest warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
According to the FBI, Silsbee has previously shown interest in nudist activities and once belonged to the American Sunbathing Association. He has worked as a security guard, tax preparer, school bus driver and warehouseman and is believed to have lived in Springfield, Missouri, San Francisco, Colorado, Arizona, northwestern Washington, and most recently in Nebraska.
The reason why he decided to turn himself in after 23 years is not known but his first court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
