Famed Rabbi Aryeh Spero said in a column on Thursday that President Donald Trump is fulfilling biblical prophecies by moving the U.S. embassy to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem from Tel Aviv after 70 years of Israeli statehood following the Holocaust of World War II.
Spero noted in a column for CNS News that Jerusalem has held significance for Israel as its center and capital since the time of King David 3,000 years ago, and even back to Abraham’s time it has had a pivotal role for the Jewish people of biblical Israel.
“For millennia Jewish hearts and prayers were directed toward a return to Zion,” Spero wrote. “No other people or nation who temporarily traversed the land between the Mediterranean Sea and Jordan River has made Jerusalem a centerpiece of their theology, history, spiritual yearning, nor the zenith of their joy and celebration.”
Spero also pointed out that the embassy is moving on May 14, which marks 70 years after the founding of Israel as the Jewish state in 1948. “Seventy years is a completed lifetime [biblically],” he said, and represents a chapter in human history that is significant.
While previous American presidents failed to move the embassy to Jerusalem out of fear of Muslim and Arab backlash, Spero stated, President Trump showed courage in actually following through on the promise to do so.
“Trump is a man of action,” Spero declared. “And he is a man of conviction and fortitude who acts upon what he knows to be right.” Spero also called Trump “refreshingly fearless” and said Trump “believes in Israel.”
“There is no greater sign of support and symbol of friendship than moving America’s embassy to Israel’s capital city of Jerusalem,” Spero said.
