A fake Hillary Clinton sex video pushed by a Russian-linked Reddit account was recently shut down by the social media website, NBC News reported Tuesday.
Rubinjer was the most popular account connected to Russia's Internet Research Agency and had received nearly 100,000 "upvotes," which are similar to Facebook "like," NBC News wrote.
A Rubinjeer post to the largest pro-Donald Trump community, r/The Donald, was titled, "This is How Hillary gets black votes" before the 2016 election, linking to an animated gif of the fake porn video that was still available in the community, per NBC News.
The network wrote that the tape was posted five times to PornHub under the name "Leaked Hillary Clinton's Hotel Sex Tape with Black Guy," along with porn site SpankBang. The video was viewed more than 250,000 times on Pornhub, per NBC News.
Alan Baskaev, an Internet Research Agency whistleblower, told Russia's TV Rain last year that the troll farm had created the Clinton porn video. The video, though, had not been credibly linked to a troll farm account until Reddit released usernames tied to the Russia-linked agency Tuesday, NBC noted.
"In my post last month, I described that we had found and removed a few hundred accounts that were of suspected Russian Internet Research Agency origin," Reddit said in a post Tuesday. "… At this point in our investigation, we have found 944 suspicious accounts, few of which had a visible impact on the site."
NBC News wrote that Rubinjer was the only user to post the fake Clinton video, and the account pushed the content on several platforms, both as animated GIFs and full videos, before the 2016 election.
Reddit is the fourth-most-visited website in the United States and home to one of the largest and most popular Donald Trump fan communities on the web, r/The_Donald, NBC News reported, using statistics from the analytics company Alexa.
