A drunk man allegedly set up a fake DUI checkpoint Saturday in Somerset, Pennsylvania, in which he pretended to be a state trooper.
Logan Shaulis, 19, parked his car diagonally across state Route 601 and set up road flares
for his 4 a.m. sham, state troopers told The Associated Press.
Shaulis pulled over at least one car at the fake checkpoint, officials said, and introduced himself as Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Rogers — the name of
Marvel superhero Captain America, KFOR reported.
WeAreCentralPA.com noted that Shaulis also had a portable scanner, a BB pistol, and handcuffs.
A motorist stopped by Shaulis’ checkpoint told the AP that the police impersonator claimed he was a trooper and demanded to see a driver’s license, registration, and insurance.
The driver also asked to see Shaulis’ own identification, and the fake officer presented his license, according to WeAreCentralPA.com.
At the arrival of actual troopers, Shaulis tried to hand the BB gun to the motorist’s passenger, according to police, while saying, “I can’t get caught with this.”
Shaulis has been charged with drunken driving, impersonating a public servant, and unlawful restraint, according to the AP.
The teenager faces a felony charge and 15 misdemeanors. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9.
