Facebook went down briefly Friday, and though it was only a short period of time, people did what they do when Facebook crashes — head to Twitter and joke about it.

Still others took a moment to give thanks for the break:
The site was down about noon Eastern time but seemed to be
working normally by 2 p.m., Mashable reported. People trying to log on to post an update during that time period saw a page that said, “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
Just before 2 p.m., this message went up on the Facebook developers page: “Traffic and error-rates are almost back to normal after a coordinated intervention by our engineering teams. We are now monitoring the situation and we have our best engineers determining the root-cause of this issue that affected much of our web fleet. We apologize for any inconvenience and we aim to ensure that this issue does not repeat.”
This is the second time Facebook has been down this year. The first time was in June and the site crashed for about 20 minutes.
The Guardian said then that it was interesting to note how other sites were affected by the outage, including the Guardian’s own website, which saw a significant decrease in traffic that was generated by Facebook referrals.
