Evan Rachel Wood Recalls 'Mean' People During Marilyn Manson Romance

Actress Evan Rachel Wood is a married mother now, but she still remembers the harsh judgments that came her way over her four-year relationship with shock rocker Marilyn Manson, the Daily Beast said.

In a candid interview — does the 26-year-old know any other kind? — Wood talked to the Daily Beast about how challenging it was to grow up in the Hollywood spotlight, a conversational twist that started after she admitted to loving Justin Bieber’s music, and about how she was treated while she was with Manson.

“People were pretty mean,” she told the Beast of her relationship with Manson. “At the time I hadn’t yet been exposed to that kind of cruelty from strangers. If people were wondering why I was acting so-called crazy or like a teenager, it’s because I was. People go through phases. People make mistakes. People go through life and don’t get it right every time.”

Wood, 26, knows what it’s like to grow up in the limelight. In the acting game since age 9, she told the Beast, “Like, do people remember when they were that age? On this global level, people freak out. They like to be high and mighty and say, ‘Oh, look at that person. I’ve never done anything like that.’ But yes you have. Everyone’s been a crazy kid.”

Wood is known for her candid comments in the media, but since having a child, she’s toned it down, she told the Daily Beast. But she’s still good for great comments, as evidenced in a recent Salon article, where she said, “It does me more good to lick a toilet seat than to care what people say about me or my personal life on the Internet.”

Wood’s co-star in the recently released “Charlie Countryman,” Shia LaBeouf, has been in the news for some questionable decisions and life changes, including drug use on the movie set to prepare for the role and a rough time in his life when he quit a Broadway show.

“People’s mouths water when they think they’re seeing someone fall or freak out. He’s not doing that. It was an intense experience,” she told Salon.
