Model Erin Langmaid had no idea she was pregnant. She never experienced morning sickness or showed signs of a baby bump. She was also using contraceptive injections, so when the 23-year-old began feeling ill on Oct. 29, she did not think much of it. Then she gave birth to a baby girl at home in her bathroom after 10 minutes of labor, Australia's 7 News reported.
Langmaid's boyfriend Daniel Carty was in the other room when he heard a commotion. He rushed into the bathroom, where he saw his daughter Isla for the first time. But something was wrong. The baby was not breathing.
Carty sprang into action and called emergency services. The operator calmly took him through the steps to resuscitate his daughter and he was able to save her life.
Just over two weeks have passed and Isla, who was born at 7 poounds, 7 ounces, and her mom are now both in good health. Langmaid admitted to still being in shock but said she and Carty were adjusting to their new life, which they are thrilled with.
The new father shared a photo of their little family to Instagram with a heartfelt story of their life-changing surprise.
In a caption, he wrote how his daughter "lived in mummy's tummy for 9 months" without letting them know. He added that after "an extremely tough few days," both mother and daughter were able to go back home.
"The support of our family and friends is something that we will never be able to thank them enough for," Carty said. "To Erin the courage you have shown is something I didn't think possible, you are an incredible person and will be an amazing mum."
The new parents said they were looking forward to life with "the most gorgeous new little addition and all the great things that come with that."
