Eric Frein has been captured. The man at the top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list for allegedly shooting a Pennsylvania state trooper to death, was taken into custody alive Thursday, a Pennsylvania State Police spokeswoman said.
"I can confirm that we have taken Eric Frein into custody. Further information will be released at a later time. No further information will be released or confirmed at this time,"
Connie Devens said in an email to reporters, according to CNN.
Frein is a known survivalist and weapons expert, and law enforcement had been stymied in looking for him.
Frein, 31, was captured after 48 days on the run, and he’ll be held on charges he allegedly killed Cpl. Bryon Dickson and wounded another trooper on Sept. 12 in an ambush outside state police barracks.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said in September that Frein apparently had a grudge against the police.
“There were unarmed civilians right in the exact same location during the course of the shooting [at the Blooming Grove barracks], and he chose not to shoot at them,” Corbett said at a news conference.
WBRE reported that Frein was found in the hangar at a Pocono airport.
News of Frein’s capture spread quickly throughout the internet.
