Eric Frein was captured after a 48-day manhunt in the woods of northern Pennsylvania Thursday night. He was placed in the handcuffs and police car once used by the cop he's suspected of killing.

"He was handcuffed with the handcuffs of Corporal Dickson, which I think was very appropriate," Gov. Tom Corbett said at a late-night news conference. "Let me assure you from everyone here: Justice will be served."

Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said Frein, 31, "was definitely taken by surprise," and did not have any weapons on him when he was captured around 6 p.m., ABC News reported.

"Eric Frein was dedicated to killing law enforcement," Noonan said further. "I can't think of a more dangerous occupation than going out into those woods and looking for him."

Frein will be arraigned Friday at 9 a.m., and prosecutor Ray Tonkin, Pike County District Attorney, said he plans to pursue the death penalty.

Frein had been on the run since Sept. 12, the day he allegedly ambushed Dickson and fellow Trooper Alex Douglass at the Blooming Grove barracks. Douglass was injured during the attack, and was released from a physical rehabilitation facility a few weeks ago.

A diary entry, AK-47, two homemade pipe bombs and other survival items were found at campsites Frein stayed at throughout the ensuing chase.

"He has been stripped of his guns, his bombs, and now his freedom," said Sam Rabadi, chief of the Philadelphia office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

"Got a shot around 11 p.m. and took it," Frein wrote in a diary entry dated September 12. "He dropped. I was surprised at how quick. I took a follow-up shot on his head, neck area. He was still and quiet after that. Another cop approached the one I just shot. As he went to kneel, I took a shot at him and jumped in the door. His legs were visible and still."
