Emmet Farnan ran a half marathon on April 1 with an interesting twist: the Notre Dame senior chugged a beer at the start of every mile — 13.1 miles total.
Farnan took the concept of the “beer mile” — a mile run in which the runner drinks a beer every lap — and applied it to the half marathon, a school event called the Holy Half. His finishing time was 1:43:42, which is a good finish even without any beer.
Farnan posted footage of his exploit on YouTube. He shotgunned the beers, which made them easier and faster to drink.
Although there is no official record for running a half-marathon with beers, Farnan likely will not be credited with the feat either, since he poured out a little bit of foam with some of the beers and spit a little bit out, Sports Illustrated noted.
Coors Light was Farnan’s beer of choice, which also did not meet the official 5.0 percent ABV requirement for beer runs.
Nevertheless, the feat was impressive, and Farnan finished strong, passing many other runners in the final mile of the race, the video shows.
Farnan is a former high school runner from Long Island. Some friends can be seen on the video helping him through the race, following him or leading him on bicycles.
Twitter fans seemed impressed with Farnan’s feat.
