Actress Emma Watson has been leaving copies of a Maya Angelou book around London Tube stations as part of a city program and her own book club.
The actress posted on her Instagram page Tuesday that she was hiding “Mom & Me & Mom,” Maya Angelou’s seventh autobiography, around the London tube (subway) as part of the city’s Books on the Underground project. The book is also a featured selection of Watson’s feminist book club Our Shared Shelf.
Our Shared Shelf posted a photo of one of the found books showing a personal note from Watson explaining why the books were hidden and encouraging the finder to read the book and leave comments on the Goodreads page for Our Shared Shelf.
Watson has become a prominent activist for women’s issues and gender equality in recent years. She serves as a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador and is the face of HeForShe, a U.N. initiative launched in 2014 to engage men in fighting for women’s equality around the world.
Although some have called her names like “feminazi,” Watson told Esquire in March that “it’s not going to stop me from trying to do the right thing and make sure that the right thing happens.”
