The world’s heaviest woman has lost 713 pounds, having spent the past two months in the hospital recovering from a weight-loss surgery she had in March.
Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, 36, has gotten the thumbs up from her doctors to finally go home after being laid up in a hospital bed since her gastric sleeve procedure, according to Dr. Oz The Good Life.
Going into the surgery, El Aty weighed 1,102 pounds, but she’ll be going home at 389 pounds.
"The team of doctors at Saifee Hospital has done a fabulous job and her recovery has been unprecedented," the Save Eman Cause said in a press release, according to People magazine. "She is stable and all parameters are under control. She will continue to need neurological rehabilitation and physiotherapy."
The Egypt native went to Saifee Hospital in Mumbai for pro-bono surgery, but the way that surgery came about was very unpredictable.
El Aty’s doctor, Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, found her on Twitter after her sister, Shaimaa, took to the social media platform to ask for help for El Aty.
After raising money, El Aty was flown to India on a chartered cargo plane so that she could undergo surgery.
"She came on a chartered cargo plane and goes back as a passenger on a flight in Business Class," the press release said.
The surgery comes after El Aty had been confined to her bed for the last 20 years as her health continued to get worse. Her speech and mobility became even worse after a stroke she had two years ago.
Whe will continue neurological rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
"Eman is an inspiration to millions of critical and obese patients world over that someone as serious as her can get better with expert medical care and advances in medical science," the Save Eman Cause said.
