Singer Elton John, having battled prostate cancer, was assisted off the stage during Sunday night's performance in New Zealand, losing his voice and coming to tears amid a bout with walking pneumonia, the U.K.'s Independent reported.
"I'm sorry, so very sorry," John told the crowd, per the report. "My voice is shot."
John was forced to abruptly end his Mount Smart Stadium performance in Auckland, New Zealand, and video shows him crying and waving to the crowd before he was assisted off the stage.
At the beginning of the performance, John told the crowd he had walking pneumonia.
John later wrote on Instagram:
"I want to thank everyone who attended tonight's gig in Auckland. I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible. I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I'm disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had. Thank-you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight's performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton xx"
John's 300-show Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is the last before his retirement. He recently announced he had contracted an infection after prostate cancer surgery, telling the Independent he was so sick he "had to learn how to walk again" and was "24 hours" from death.
