Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk wants to launch a journalist-rating site, and it may share the name of a Communist newspaper: Pravda, a word that translates to "truth."

This was revealed in a string of tweets posted by the Tesla chief executive Wednesday through Thursday, becoming increasingly tetchy as he dug his claws into the media, the New York Post noted.

The rant was sparked by a string of negative media reports about Musk and his company, which included coverage of recent Tesla crashes as well as Consumer Reports' criticism of the company's Model 3 sedan.

On Wednesday afternoon, Musk posted a link to auto blog Electrek, which had addressed the negative media coverage of Tesla.

In his tweetstorm, Musk called large media houses "holier-than-thou hypocrisy" which "lay claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie, is why the public no longer respects them."

He later stated his intent to create a new website that would allow the public to rate the core truth of an article and also be able to track the credibility score of journalists and publications.

Musk said he was toying with the idea of naming the site Pravda which, according to the New York Post, was the Russian word for "truth" as well as the official newspaper of the Soviet Union’s Communist Party.

Musk posted a poll to Twitter, in which he encouraged his followers to vote whether they would support his "media credibility rating site," and 88 percent of participants voted in favor of the initiative.

He then continued his tirade by taunting media outlets to get their readers to vote against the site and, when the majority vote still in his favor, Musk then poked fun at the situation, claiming this was the best he had felt in a while.

Reactions to the idea were mixed.
