Elizabeth Swaney, a skier representing Hungary in the Women’s Halfpipe event, made her puzzling Olympic debut Monday in competition.
Swaney, who managed to qualify for an Olympic spot without being able to do a single trick on the pipe, competed in the freeski halfpipe Monday and simply skied back and forth on the halfpipe — no flips or spins, no tail grabs, and no triple corks (or any other kind of corks for that matter).
Born in America, Swaney qualified to be on Hungary’s team because her grandparents are Hungarian.
According to Yahoo, by traveling to skiing competitions with fewer than 30 participants and managing not to finish last, Swaney qualified to be on the Olympic team in a way that some are saying isn’t honest and should be changed.
Her ingenuity may be praised by some, but the judges were not impressed with her laconic routine and only gave her a score of 30 out of a possible 100.
Head judge Philippe Belanger told the Denver Post the International Ski Federation may shrink the number of qualifying spots in future Olympics for the event.
Although some said they were inspired by Swaney, Twitter did not seem impressed with her mediocre performance.
