Elinor Trotta: Amber Alert for 3-Year-Old Canceled, Girl Found Safe

An Amber Alert for 3-year-old Elinor Trotta was canceled Tuesday after the toddler and her father were found outside an apartment complex in Spencer, Massachusetts.

The girl’s father, Michael Trotta, 43, has been charged with assault, carjacking, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment, WPVI-TV reported. Authorities say Trotta took the girl from her home in New Castle, Delaware, on Monday.

"Today is my birthday, and I prayed all day to God that I would get her back, and he gave me the best birthday present ever. And I'm going to go get my Elinor back," the girl’s mother, Dawn Barkus, said, according to WPVI-TV.

Trotta may have had help fleeing, the station reported.

Police said Trotta had warrants for his arrest connected to Monday’s incident and an assault on Feb. 15 involving Elinor’s mother, CBS New York reported.

Police earlier thought Trotta may have taken the girl to the Marinette, Wisconsin, area, and believed she was in imminent danger, WITI-TV reported.

Twitter users expressed relief.
