Eli Manning admitted that his end might be near with the New York Giants, Sportsnaut.com reported.
While the quarterback did not say he was hanging up his Giants jersey, his cryptic comments on WFAN in New York on Tuesday revealed that his future is uncertain.
This emerged after the question of whether Manning would be with the Giants next year was posed.
"I just don't know," he replied, per Sportsnaut.
The Giants have been battling what many are calling their worst season yet and news that Manning may depart next year does not come as such a surprise.
According to The New York Post, the team's 13 game losses this season is the most in franchise history, and the team finished 1-7 on the road, their worst road record since 1978.
Manning has been vocal about his disappointments for the season, saying in November that the Giants' 1-7 start was tough for him.
"Of course you're going to be down, you're going to be disappointed, and getting beat and getting beat badly, it's always tough," he said, according to CBS News. "It wouldn't be natural if it didn't hurt. You want to fix it."
The Giants benched Manning in favor of Geno Smith in Week 13.
"This is not a statement about anything other than we are 2-9, and we have to do what is best for the organization moving forward, and that means evaluating every position," general manager, Jerry Reese offered as an explanation, SB Nation reported.
Despite this, Manning said on Tuesday that he and Giants co-owner John Mara shared a solid relationship.
"He's been a wonderful owner, the Tisch's, everybody," Manning said, per Sportsnaut.com. "There's no other team I want to play for. This is all I know.''
