Electric Heater Recall: Dyson Products Recalled for Fire Hazard

By    |   Tuesday, 01 April 2014 04:50 PM EDT

More than 300,000 Dyson brand portable electric heaters have been recalled in the U.S. due to a possible fire hazard, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Dyson issued the recall on Tuesday, saying the bladeless heaters can develop an electrical short and overheat. The recall included about 43,000 of the heaters sold in Canada.

“This recall is for all Dyson Hot heaters and Dyson Hot+Cool heaters having model number AM04 and all Dyson Hot+Cool heaters with model number AM05,” a release on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website said.

The recalled heaters stand 23 inches tall and have a round base and an oval-shaped upper body. They are reported to be sold at several large retail outlets and online for $399.00 from September 2011 to March of this year.

“Of a million Dyson heaters sold around the world, 82 are known to have short-circuited, including four machines with burned or melted internal parts,” according to a statement on Dyson’s website. “There have been no instances of injury or property damage, but safety is our first priority. That's why we’re recalling all machines and implementing an engineering fix in each one.”

Consumers who have purchased the heaters, manufactured in Malaysia, are being told to immediately stop using the units and unplug them. Owners of units affected by the recall should register the machine at www.dysonrecall.com for a free fix.
