The East Coast is under a flash flood watch as a low-pressure system tracks up the coastline bringing more heavy rains to the Northeast through Tuesday, AccuWeather reported.
Parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York state and Massachusetts have already been hit by dangerous flooding but the wet weather is expected to worsen as a second round of heavy rains inundate the Northeast.
Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York are all under a flash flood watch as of Monday, ABC News reported, with more than four inches expected to come from Pennsylvania into western New York.
Texas and parts of the southern Plains are also expected to see heavy rains, however, these parts are under severe drought and the wet weather may offer some reprieve from the extreme dry conditions.
"Whether 5 inches of rain falls in as many days or an inch of rain falls in an hour, enough rain is expected to fall to lead to rising rivers and urban and small stream flooding," warned AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski. "The rain may lead to delays and cancellations of some sporting events and could make moving into a new home, apartment or dorm quite difficult."
Some areas could see several inches of rain through Tuesday while the Pacific Northwest will see temperatures rise Monday, with fire watches issued to Wyoming, Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington.
Sosnowski said that the pattern "is looking more likely to remain wet through August," meaning there will be "a heightened concern for significant flooding as the hurricane season peaks during September and early October."
