An earthquake off Southern California near the Channel Islands caused buildings to sway across Los Angeles and in communities north of the city.
The quake registered a magnitude of 5.3 and was centered about 36 miles west of the coast of Southern California, according to an alert from the U.S. Geological Survey. The closest major city was Ventura.
Police there said they had no immediate reports of injuries. There were also no initial reports of damage or injuries in Los Angeles, police said.
In a tweet, Los Angeles Police said they will “work with all our local partners to check infrastructure and critical locations.”
