Dustin Diamond, known for his role as Screech in “Saved by the Bell,” will stand trial after being involved in an altercation at a bar and allegedly stabbing a man.
Diamond has been charged with a felony count of second-degree reckless endangerment and additional misdemeanors of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct. He was arrested Dec. 25 after the incident at a bar in Port Washington, Wisconsin.
Diamond has said that he acted in self-defense, according to Fox 6, and some sources have said that surveillance video at the bar might back up his claim.
In testimony, a police officer said that Diamond had signed for the bill at the restaurant when he heard his fiancée, Amanda Schutz, scream, Fox 6 said.
“He turned around and saw she was bleeding and two men were holding her back. He intervened,” Fox 6 quoted from the police officer’s testimony.
Surveillance video apparently showed Diamond moving toward the group of people, but there some conflicting reports about what happened after that. The man who was injured had a small puncture wound on the right side of his chest, Fox 6 said.
In a Monday preliminary hearing, the judge ruled that Diamond could leave Wisconsin for work. The actor had spent four nights in jail before posting a $10,000 bail on Dec. 29, Fox 6 said. Schutz was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
The bar owner told TMZ that the video surveillance footage was “shaky.”
