The "Dumbo" trailer for Tim Burton’s live-action remake of the 1941 Disney animated film just dropped and, judging by this first glance, we’re in for a whimsical treat with all the expected dark touches.
The movie, set to premier in 2019, features a stellar cast that includes Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Eva Green.
Here’s the plot for anyone who doesn’t know it by now, plus some of Burton’s twists:
Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) puts former Big Top star Holt Farrier (Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) in charge of caring for Dumbo.
The newborn elephant with his oversized ears becomes the laughing stock of the struggling circus but things turn around when they discover he can fly.
The story is not complete without its share of dark secrets, and beneath its glamorous veneer, the circus has enough of those to create an epic, drama filled film that will, in theory, captivate audiences.
Burton is known for incorporating eerie, dark undertones into his films, as is evident in "A Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands," and the newly released trailer for "Dumbo" definitely features his signature style, with grand set designs that left his cast speechless, Entertainment Weekly reported.
"The physical space was so enormous, it’s the largest set I’ve ever been on in my life," Keaton said. "Literally, a chill went up the back of my neck."
Farrell meanwhile told People magazine that walking onto the set was jaw dropping.
"Tim’s vision for this world and his honoring of not only the purity, but the true strength and resilience of children was like nothing I have been a part of in film before," he said.
"Dumbo" is the latest in a string of live-action reboots by Disney. Remakes of "Sleeping Beauty," "Cinderella" and "The Jungle Book" have dominated the box office.
