Drew Brees joked on Twitter on Sunday that he was “randomly” selected for a drug test immediately after he speculated that he might play football into his mid-40s.

Speaking with NFL.com’s Albert Breer on Friday, Brees, the Saints quarterback, pointed to successful older football players like Brett Favre to support his idea that he might play for another 10 years, which would make him 45.
Talking about his dream of playing another 10 years, Brees said, “I understand the challenges that come along with that. But why not? If I can stay healthy, and I'm having fun and playing at a high level, why wouldn't I wanna do that? The biggest challenge is physically, the maintenance, the recovery, the way you train. You gotta hope that you stay healthy, but why not?"
For Brees, the determination to win overcomes any drawbacks to age. He’ll turn 36 this year during the playoffs.
"If everything you do, you're trying to win at, and you're pissed if you don't, it becomes your nature," Brees told NFL.com. "It is my nature. It's hard for me not to do that. And that's what motivates you, and gets you going. I mean, I'm 10 years older than all those quarterbacks, and I'm thinking, 'Am I gonna let this young punk beat me? I'm not gonna let this young punk beat me at anything!'"
The Los Angeles Times pointed out that if Brees does start a game at the age of 45, he’d be the oldest quarterback to ever do so. Right now, the record-holder is Steve DeBerg at 44 and 279 days.
