A "Downton Abbey" promotional photo was upstaged by a water bottle this week after fans pointed out that the 21st-century item did not jive with the period drama's 1920s timeline.
The photo, a teaser for the upcoming new season featuring Hugh Bonneville and Laura Carmichael in character as Lord Grantham and Lady Edith, was released Thursday on the series' Facebook page. It's meant to be a stately portrait of the couple in their home
sometime in 1924, according to the Los Angeles Times.
But among the decorative vases on the mantelpiece is something that is a bit ahead of its time — a plastic water bottle.

"The stars have been posing for some new promotional shots but in the grand old home a plastic water bottle was left in shot, despite the fact the fifth series is
set in 1924," the Mirror U.K. reported. "A bottle, complete with blue top, had been left on the fireplace."
Water bottles, the newspaper noted, were not widely used until the 1960s.
The mistake didn't go unnoticed by fans on social media, with some throwing out their own thoughts about the mistake.
The popular ITV drama, which has found a strong fan base in the United States, will kick off its fifth season in the U.K. in the fall. It will be available in the U.S. in January, according to the Times.
The final episode of "Downton Abbey's" fourth season, which concluded in the U.S. in February, averaged 8.5 million viewers, up 300,000 from its
last episode in 2013, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The February finale trailed only the Winter Olympics, "The Walking Dead," and the Daytona 500 in ratings.
