Donald Trump was booed loudly for calling Marco Rubio a "clown" during a speech at the 2015 Values Voter Summit on Friday.

News broke just after 12 noon, with journalists from both liberal and conservative publications noting the gaffe on Twitter.

C-SPAN offered a live feed of the candidates' speeches, but did not immediately offer a replay clip of the flap after Trump completed his speech.

Things have been tense between the two this week, with Trump knocking the senator's voting record, his age and, in a "Morning Joe" appearance on Thursday, his rate of perspiration. Rubio hit back, calling Trump "touchy," "insecure," and "uninformed" on the issues.

Sen. Marco Rubio, who's risen in the polls since this month's second Republican primary debate, spoke to the crowd earlier in the day. Rubio broke the news of Speaker John Boehner's imminent resignation to the crowd during his speech, and the crowd applauded loudly.

Sen. Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, and Sen. Rand Paul were also scheduled to speak at the conference on Friday, followed on Saturday by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Trump was reportedly also booed on Thursday when he stepped out on the balcony of Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Ave. to wave to the Pope Francis' motorcade, said the New York Daily News.

"Feo! Feo!" the crowd chanted, using the Spanish word for "ugly."
