Donald Coffman hit the $2 million lottery jackpot last Saturday and the lucky win was all thanks to his dad, who told him to buy a Powerball ticket, Inside Edition reported.
“He told me to play and dream big,” the Tennessee man said, and so he purchased a ticket at a local Tobacco store in Millington which ended up matching five of six numbers drawn on Saturday, the Tennessee Lottery said.
Coffman happened to have added the Powerball Power Play for an extra dollar, which doubled his prize.
“We called the store about this, and they were screaming and screaming,” he said. “They were as excited as us.”
Coffman added that he plans to use his winnings to build a house for him and his wife, which will come with a “Man-Diva Cave.”
Over in Michigan, a 64-year-old woman smiled all the way to collect her $100,000 winnings last Wednesday after she accidently bought the wrong lotto ticket.
Linda Keyanchuk planned to buy a multi-draw Powerball ticket online earlier this month but accidentally bought six Powerball tickets instead.
The blunder ended up winning the 64-year-old two $50,000 prizes after she matched the four white balls and the Powerball twice — 10-21-30-43-63 PB: 17 — in the Aug. 8 drawing.
She also matched three numbers and the Powerball four times to win an additional $400.
Luck was certainly on their sides but before you dash off to the local store to buy your lotto ticket in hopes of recreating their fortune, it is worth knowing that the odds are likely stacked against you.
In fact, according to Fortune magazine, you are more likely to get struck by lightning, hit by a meteorite, killed by a shark or drown in a Grand Canyon flash flood.
Then again, both Coffman and Keyanchuk were facing those same odds and they still managed to strike it lucky.
