Actor Don Mitchell, who starred on the original "Ironside" from 1967 to 1975, died Wednesday of natural causes at age 71, The Los Angeles Times reported.

On "Ironside," Mitchell played Mark Sanger, an aide and bodyguard to chief of detectives Robert Ironside, played by Raymond Burr. Ironside was confined to a wheelchair.

Mitchell appeared again as Sanger in a TV reunion film in 1993, "The Return of Ironside." He also appeared on "I Dream of Jeannie," "McMillan & Wife," "Wonder Woman," and "CHiPS."

Mitchell is survived by a daughter, Julia Pace Mitchell, who acted on "The Young and the Restless."

A remake of "Ironside" aired on NBC earlier this year but was pulled after just three episodes.
