The film, "Welcome to New York," stars Gérard Depardieu in a role that appears to be very similar to DSK, the disgraced French politician who was forced to resign from IMF in 2011 when he was accused of sexually assaulting a hotel employee.
Depardieu told reporters after the Cannes showing that the movie was a "unique adventure because it's drawn from a news item that everyone has read,” adding that the film depicts "power, money, and sex . . . everything from a Shakespearean tragedy.”

Jean Veil, DSK’s lawyer, told Europe1 radio in France on Monday that his client was disgusted by the movie and will file a defamation complaint because of the accusations and insinuations of rape throughout the film, according to The Telegraph. Veil said the complaint will be filed soon but didn’t specify exactly when.
"We have the right to fiction, but not the right to accuse," the lawyer said. "DSK, like everyone, has the right to be forgotten."
In May 2011, 65-year-old DSK was accused of sexually assaulting a luxury hotel chambermaid. Criminal charges were later dropped when the parties struck out-of-court civil settlement thought to be at least $1.5 million.
The Cannes film also stars Jacqueline Bisset, who portrays Anne Sinclair, DSK's former wife and editor of France's version of The Huffington Post. Sinclair said on Sunday that, while the film is anti-Semitic, she doesn't plan to file a lawsuit, The Telegraph noted.
DSK is scheduled to go on trial later this year on charges of aggravated pimping in a separate prostitution ring case in France.
