Disney World Fire: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Ignited by Fireworks

By    |   Monday, 03 November 2014 10:16 AM EST

A small fire at Disney World's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train late Saturday was sparked by the park's fireworks, but officials reported no injuries and the ride reopened about midnight.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Reedy Creek Fire Department responded to the blaze and was able to quickly put it out. WESH-TV reported flames coming from the popular ride about 10 p.m. Disney officials told the television station that riders were immediately evacuated from the train.

Reedy fire officials told reporters that they suspect fireworks from one of the park's shows possibly fell onto the ride, sparking the fire.

"We believe fireworks fell from the Magic Kingdom fireworks show and the ash landed at the top of the attraction, catching the fake grass on fire," Bo Jones, spokesman for the Reedy Creek Fire Department, told WGHP-TV in a statement. "The fire was contained to just the grass and did not get into the building or structure."

"Everyone was either taking pictures of the flames or clueless trying to get through to the other side of the park. It was shocking to see a fire at Disney," Lori Hickey said.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that the train ride opened May 28 to great fanfare as a family-friendly roller coaster with swaying cars and snow.

Even though the fire was minor, it dominated posts on social media.
