Disney Bus Crash: Woman Killed After Running Red Light, Hitting Bus

By    |   Monday, 15 Dec 2014 05:44 PM

A woman was killed in a crash with a Disney bus after police said she ran a red light and plowed into the bus loaded with about 20 people.

The accident was near the Disney Coronado Springs Resort.

Police said the car that ran the red light hit the Disney bus and then spun into another car, The Associated Press said.

No one else was injured in the accident.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m., according to Orlando’s WKMG. The station identified the woman killed as 29-year-old Amelia Davis of Windermere, Florida.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Davis turned left on a red light, directly into the path of the Disney bus, which hit her on the passenger side of the car. Davis was driving a Honda CR-V.

Bus crashes at the Magical Kingdom aren’t unheard of. A 63-year-old woman died in 2013 after the car she was driving was rear ended by a Disney bus, although witnesses said it appeared her car was slowing or stopping, possibly from mechanical problems.

In 2010, a 10-year-old boy was hit and killed by a Disney bus as he rode on the resort on his bicycle. In 2011, a Disney bus and a semitruck collided, leaving five people injured.
