Twins born in different years? It happened in Arizona, with one boy arriving in 2016 and his brother minutes later in 2017. But they weren't alone. It also happened in Texas and California.
Sawyer and Everett Shay were born at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Arizona, to parents Holly and Brandon Shay, according to the Arizona Republic.
Holly Sawyer arrived at the hospital about 5:30 p.m. ready to give birth. Sawyer was born at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, weighing five pounds, five ounces. Everett was not born until 12:01 a.m. Sunday, becoming Arizona's first baby born in 2017. Everett weighed four pounds, eight ounces.
"It was a perfect birth," Holly Shay told the Republic. "Everett might disagree, but that's because he's just stubborn."
Dallas's KTVT reported that Cassandra Martinez gave birth to J'aiden Alexander Sanchez at 11:46 p.m. on Saturday and Jordan Xavier Sanchez 26 minutes later in 2017 at the Medical City Arlington.
The arrivals were a bit of a surprise since Martinez was not expecting until Jan. 20. J'aiden weighed in at six pounds, three ounces, while Jordan was born at five pounds, four ounces.
"I definitely was not expecting to spend the holiday, but I am glad they're here and healthy," Martinez told the television station.
Twin girls were born at San Diego's Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns in 2016 and 2017 as well, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The parents asked for privacy but did release the names of the girls.
Scarlett Annie was born at 11:56 p.m. on Saturday while her sister Virginia Rose was born at midnight on Jan. 1.
