Dick Van Dyke was treated to a flash mob to kick off his 90th birthday celebration over the weekend as fans dressed up as "Mary Poppins" characters to perform music from the iconic movie.
The gathering happened Saturday at the Los Angeles shopping mall The Grove as the iconic entertainer watched the flash mob dance to "Jolly Holiday" and "Step in Time," which Van Dyke performed in the 1964 classic
"Mary Poppins," according to Entertainment Weekly.
Van Dyke showed his appreciation in a Twitter message Sunday with a video clip of the event.
Van Dyke, who attended the event with his wife Arlene Silver-Van Dyke, played Bert and Mr. Dawes Sr. in the Disney musical. He joined in Saturday on some favorites like "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."
Photographer Nicola Buck shared several photos of the celebration on social media.
The Orange County Register said that Van Dyke also got the star treatment at Disneyland on Sunday when fans sang "Happy Birthday" to him on Main Street, U.S.A. That celebration began with an unveiling of a silhouette of his chimney sweep character Bert inside the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe.
Van Dyke took to the balcony of the Dream Suite in New Orleans Square and waved at fans.
"Mary Poppins" earned $652 million at the box office after it was released in 1964. When adjusted for ticket inflation, the total makes the movie the 26th highest-grossing film of
