TLC has officially cut ties with "Counting On" star Derick Dillard over a series of tweets in which he criticized another TLC star, transgender teen Jazz Jennings, and her family.
Dillard, the husband of Duggar daughter Jill, expressed pity for Jennings and said he thought the teen was being taken advantage of, and he refused to use female pronouns to refer to Jennings, who transitioned from male to female in 2015.
“I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child. It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on TV these days,” Dillard tweeted.
After getting some pushback for his comments, he also tweeted about whether children should be allowed to make decisions about becoming transgender, since “our brains aren’t fully developed til around 25.”
TLC released a statement Saturday on Twitter to let viewers know Dillard had not been part of “Counting On” for several months and that the network didn’t plan to feature him in the future. TLC also said Dillard’s “personal statements do not reflect the views of the network.”
“TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so,” the network continued.
Several tweets pointed out the hypocrisy of Dillard's comments when the oldest of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19 children, Josh, is accused of molesting several of his sisters and other girls who had been in the house with the family.
