A Denver prison escape by an inmate Tuesday morning has authorities searching the Golden, Colorado, area for the escapee, who was set to be released in less than four months.
Sean Garcia was serving time at the Colorado Correctional Center in Golden after being convicted of weapons, theft, and public peace charges in November 2017. He climbed the perimeter fence around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning and escaped, NBC9 reported.
The facility, also known as Camp George West, is a minimum security work-camp center that can house up to 150 inmates.
Police said Garcia, who is 6 feet, 3 inches tall, should be considered dangerous. He has brown hair and eyes with tattoos on both arms, The Denver Channel reported. He may also have a goatee.
It was not clear how Garcia managed to climb the fence and escape without being detected, and an investigation is ongoing, The Denver Channel reported. Garcia was eligible for parole in January and his mandatory release date was Sept. 2.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about Garcia’s whereabouts to notify the Colorado Department of Corrections Fugitive Tips line at (866) 873-6305 or the command center at (719) 226-4001. Local law enforcement also can also be contacted, The Denver Channel reported.
