A Denver kitten earned the name Elsa from the Disney movie "Frozen" after she was found suffering from hypothermia Thursday and brought back to life by the Denver Dumb Friends League.
The kitten, estimated to be several months old, was brought to the shelter by Allison Baker,
according to KMGH-TV. Baker said a friend found the kitten covered in the snow that hit the area.
"I was convinced the cat was dead when she brought her here," Baker told KMGH-TV. "She was gasping for air when she was actually breathing. I think if she had been out another half an hour, there's no way she would have made it."
A cat's temperature is usually 101.5, said Morgan Schneider, the Dumb Friends League health care supervisor, but when he tried to take Elsa's temperature it didn't even register because it was so low.
"We put little booties on her and had a hair dryer," said Schneider. "Even after about 45 minutes, her temperature still was not registering on the thermometer, so it was still below 90 degrees."
Another hour of treatment and the kitten began to stabilize and her temperature registered for the first time, Schneider told the television station, adding that Elsa started to show an appetite for the first time.
"The most recent temperature was 102, so it was great," said Schneider on Thursday evening.
Staff members told
KUSA-TV that heating pads, warming bottles and warm IV fluids were also used to get Elsa perked up and back to life.
