An RV carrying a load of marijuana-flavored candy caught fire on the Delaware Memorial Bridge heading into New Jersey on Sunday night, causing a brief shutdown and extensive traffic delays.
The Weed World Candies RV was traveling to Philadelphia on a tour of east coast colleges when it caught fire around 6 p.m., according to NBC10.com. The fire caused both northbound lanes to be closed for about 30 minutes, with extensive traffic delays lasting well past 9:15 p.m. when the bridge was fully reopened.
Five people who were inside the RV were unhurt in the fire, although their personal belongings were destroyed. Company owner “Dr. Dro” told NBC10 that $50,000 in merchandise was also destroyed. The RV is one of four vehicles owned by the company. Firefighters from surrounding towns came to help on scene, and the smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. It is not yet known how or why the fire started, 6ABC.com reported.
Weed World Candies was started in 1999 to advocate for the legalization of marijuana and hemp products, according to its website.
The Bridge’s Twitter account thanked the firefighters who responded to the blaze:
