During the Daytime Emmy Awards Sunday, "Days of Our Lives" was the soap opera that cleaned up Sunday, winning five statues in major categories including best daytime drama series, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Along with best daytime drama, "Days of Our Lives" veteran James Reynolds won for best daytime drama actor, Greg Vaughan won for best supporting actor, and the show won Emmys for best writing team and directing team, the magazine said.
Chloe Lanier and Vernee Watson helped "General Hospital" win two awards for best younger actress and best guess performer, respectively, per Entertainment Weekly. "The Young and the Restless" captured two awards, with Eileen Davidson winning for best daytime drama actress and Camryn Grimes for best supporting actress.
Rome Flynn, of "The Bold and the Beautiful" won for best younger actor, Entertainment Weekly noted.
Along with the show's five awards, The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that longtime "Days of Our Lives stars" and real-life husband and wife Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes were given a lifetime achievement award Sunday.
"Days of Our Lives" started broadcasting in 1965 on NBC and is one of the longest running scripted television shows on television, per Britannica.com.
The Emmy wins come as good news for "Days of Our Lives," which has been the lowest rated of the four remaining network soap operas and a possible candidate for cancellation, but it was renewed by NBC in February 2017, according to the website TVSeriesFinale.com.
