Dayanna Volitich, who ran a podcast that drew criticism for white supremacist sentiments, has resigned from her teaching position at a Florida middle school.
The Huffington Post reported that the 25-year-old social studies teacher at Crystal River Middle School in Florida had been hosting the white nationalist podcast "Unapologetic" under the pseudonym "Tiana Dalichov."
Shortly after the report, the Citrus County School District announced that Volitich had been removed form the classroom pending further investigations.
Assistant Superintendent Mike Mullen said Monday that the teacher had handed in her resignation and, while it is not considered official until accepted by the school board, approval of the resignation will be discussed at the upcoming school board meeting, CNN noted.
In a statement provided by her attorney, Volitich said she "employed political satire and exaggeration," in her comments on the podcast and on social media under the Dalichov alias, NBC News reported.
She claimed this was done "mainly to the end of attracting listeners and followers, and generating conversation about the content discussed between myself and my guests."
She also denied claims against her.
"None of the statements released about my being a white nationalist or white supremacist have any truth to them, nor are my political beliefs injected into my teaching of social studies curriculum," she said in the statement, per CNN.
Volitich posted a series of offensive tweets which have since been removed under the handle @TianaDalichov.
Among them was a post in which she said: "It isn't supremacist or hateful to prefer your own people over others," according to NBC News.
In a recent podcast, Volitich also claimed to bring her white nationalist beliefs into the classroom, The Huffington Post said.
