David Letterman Departs Retirement to Thump Trump in a Special Top 10

By    |   Tuesday, 14 July 2015 12:46 PM EDT

David Letterman was forced out of retirement Friday by none other than Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, or so the comedian says.

Letterman appeared at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, Texas, for a Steve Martin and Martin Short performance in which he provided one of his infamous Top 10s, this one called “Interesting Facts about Donald Trump,” Tech Times reported.

According to CNN, in his presidential announcement on June 16 Trump said, “When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best . . . They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists.”

Sporting a new beard, the former “Late Night” host insisted he had been without regrets when it came to his choice to retire, though he admitted to being happy to be out of the house.

But then Trump announced his run for the presidency.

“I was complacent; I was satisfied; I was content,” Letterman said, according to The Washington Post. “And then a couple of days ago, Donald Trump said he was running for president — I have made the biggest mistake of my life, ladies and gentleman.”

Much of the list consisted of mocking Trump’s hair, but the comedian also made reference to the candidate’s comments on Mexican immigrants.

The third “fact” on Letterman’s list read, “As president, instead of pardoning a turkey on Thanksgiving, he plans to evict a family on Thanksgiving.”

Additionally, Letterman pointed out the amount of controversy and criticism the real estate mogul has received.

No. 2 on the list was “Donald Trump has pissed off so many Mexicans he's starring in a new movie entitled ‘No Amigos.’”

Since making the controversial remarks, the Miss Universe Organization’s content was removed from Univision’s schedule, Macy’s dropped Trump's clothing line from its shelves, and chefs Geoffrey Zakarian and José Andrés have pulled their plans to open restaurants in Trump’s hotel.

To sum up his feelings about the presidential hopeful, Letterman said to top off the list: “Thanks to Donald Trump, the Republican mascot is also an a**.”

It’s not the first time Letterman has criticized Trump. In 2011, the comedian said he felt Trump’s criticism of President Barack Obama was based on race.
