David Cassidy took the stage for his final concert over the weekend, ending a long performance career after he made his battle with dementia public last month when he forgot his own lyrics during a performance.
The musician, who made his musical debut in 1969 and starred in "The Partridge Family" as son Keith, gave his final concert on Saturday at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City.
“I’m overwhelmed with the loving, caring, supportive reaction to the fact I have the early stages of dementia,” Cassidy wrote on his website last week. “I want every single person who will ever read this, or hear this, to know that their love and care for me, and concern for me, means everything in the world.”
“I’ve chosen for 2017 to finish where I began, and where I was born, in the city of Manhattan, in New York, at B.B. Kings in just more than a few days. I intend to put the touring aspect of my life to rest,” he added. “I’m one of the more fortunate human beings, let alone actors, songwriters, singers, musicians, producers, creators in that I’ve had a lifetime of living my dreams. Without you all I would have very little. I am now a very, very, very heart-full rich man.”
While performing Saturday night, Cassidy asked the audience to help him out by singing along with him to "I Think I Love You," as his voice was too hoarse to perform his classic debut single alone, the Daily Mail noted.
Cassidy told his fans he's been struggling with laryngitis.
"As long as I have breath left in my body – ignoring laryngitis, I’m going to sing this song for the rest of my life," Cassidy said about "I Think I Love You," according to the Daily Mail. "And it is something that I treasure, I know many of you do as well, it’s had such an impact on my life. I don’t know how to describe it."
