Danny Nickerson, a 5-year-old Massachusetts boy fighting inoperable brain cancer, wants nothing more than a box full of birthday cards to celebrate his sixth birthday this coming Friday.
And that's exactly what he got from well wishers across the country after his story went viral.
Nickerson was forced to leave kindergarten after he was diagnosed with cancer in October,
mom Carley Nickerson told ABC News, adding that her son gets lonely at times as he undergoes treatments in an attempt to save his life.

"He can recognize his name now," she said. "When he saw his name on the package from magical fairies on Easter, he was so happy. He had 33 radiations from November through December last year. We are now getting chemo therapy every two weeks."
Carley Nickerson said cards and packages for her son stopped coming after Easter and she believed cards for his birthday would brighten his spirits, according to ABC News. Doctors told the Nickerson family that less than 10 percent of the children diagnosed with Danny's type of cancer live longer than 18 months.
Carley Nickerson set up a P.O. Box address for her son and started asking people online to send cards. Twitter users soon joined in the effort, asking their followers to contribute letters. So far, Danny Nickerson has received about 40 notes ahead of his July 25 birthday.
