The woman who alleges she was raped by "That '70s Show" star Danny Masterson has told her story at a pre-trial hearing.
Masterson has been accused of raping three women in the early 2000s at his Hollywood Hills, California, home. He has pleaded not guilty and a preliminary hearing is being held in Los Angeles Superior Court, where a judge will weigh whether there is probable cause to order a trial, according to The Associated Press.
Taking to the stand Tuesday, the woman identified as Jen B. recounted the alleged incident that took place on April 25, 2003. She claimed to know Masterson through the Church of Scientology. On the day of the reported rape, she said she went over to his house to pick up a set of keys, but after accepting a drink with Vodka, felt too "blurry," weak, and queasy to leave.
She recalled being unable to sit up, and having a mutual friend, Luke Watson, try to help her up.
"I couldn't walk or stand, so he put me on the tile on the ground," Jen B. said. "I said, 'Luke I can't see,' and he said, 'Open your eyes,' and I didn't know my eyes were closed. I couldn't open my eyelids. I felt really, really sick."
She testified that Masterson then carried her upstairs and after putting her in the shower, where he soaped her bare breasts despite her protests, put her on the bed and raped her. Jen B. recalled slipping in and out of consciousness.
"When I came to, he was on top of me," she said. "The first thing I recall is grabbing his hair to pull him off."
She then allegedly put a pillow in his face, but he forced it back over her face, then pulled a gun out of his nightstand and threatened her.
Jen B. first reported the alleged incident in 2003 to the Church of Scientology, which she said strongly discouraged her from going to the police.
"I would lose my family and everyone I knew," she said. The church has denied ever engaging in harassment.
In 2004, she reported the incident to the police, but on Tuesday said the case was rejected that year. This was, in part, because there were too many witnesses against her, prosecutors said at the time.
After the charges were first brought forth against Masterson in 2020, his lawyer Tom Mesereau insisted his client was innocent.
"Mr. Masterson is innocent, and we’re confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have the opportunity to testify," he said in a statement, according to People.
"Obviously, Mr. Masterson and his wife are in complete shock considering that these nearly 20-year-old allegations are suddenly resulting in charges being filed, but they and their family are comforted knowing that ultimately the truth will come out," the statement continued. "The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false."
