Trails cyclist Danny MacAskill took on the rocky terrain of his native Scotland in his latest video, showing off Scottish music, beautiful terrain, and incredible skill.
The 7-minute video, called “The Ridge,” was posted to YouTube Thursday and had more than 1.6 million views Friday afternoon.
“Ever since I was a kid growing up on Skye I have always dreamt about riding a bike up on the Cuillin Ridge,"
MacAskill told Pink Bike, a biking website. "The project took a lot of planning and was probably one of the most physically demanding films I have ever worked on! It was definitely a labor of love though as I wanted to show off the island for how it is and make everyone who lives there proud to be from this amazing part of the world.”
The short film, created by Cut Media, was challenging to film in such a remote location.
“It was certainly one of the most demanding locations we’ve ever filmed, but a rewarding one at the same time,” Stu Thomson of Cut Media told Pink Bike. “Danny and I are very proud of being from Scotland so it was great to be able to show off the amazing landscape along with Danny’s incredible riding.”
Fans were duly impressed.
“I hope that was a parachute on his back!” one wrote after watching MacAskill negotiate almost straight-up rocky promontories.
Another wrote, “Danny MacAskill is what you get when you cross a mountain goat with a very forgiving bicycle and forge the result in nerves of steel. He is a Skye native and has different ideas about what to do on his home turf than me. You may feel a little wobbly watching this, as I did, and the words bloody hell or some such may escape your lips more than once.”
