Former Chicago Bears Player Declines White House Invite

By    |   Thursday, 29 September 2011 09:46 AM EDT

Dan Hampton, former defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears, has declined President Barack Obama’s invitation to the White House next month citing a “personal choice,” reports Yahoo Sports

Hampton, along with the entire 1985 Bears Super Bowl championship team, was invited to the White House by Obama. The Bears team was originally scheduled to visit the White House in January of 1986, after being invited by President Ronald Reagan, but the Challenger disaster derailed the meeting.

Hampton cited three reasons for not accepting the invitation including that wives and children of the players weren’t invited, he isn’t a fan of the president, and that the original invitation was 25 years ago and they should “let it go.”
