Damon Wayans Jr.'s Fourth of July white dig didn't get the laughs he expected, and instead set off negative fireworks on social media. He spent Tuesday defending himself.
Wayans, who appeared in the Fox sitcom "New Girl" and is the son of comedian Damon Wayans, set off the pyrotechnics with a racially-tinged tweet on Tuesday, the New York Post pointed out.
The Huffington Post described Wayans joke as "a Yankee Doodle dud," as the criticism started pouring in from around the Internet.
The responses forced Wayans back on Twitter to defend himself and stand his ground.
But many Twitter followers were not about to let the "Let's Be Cops" actor off the hook that easy.
