A dad and stepdad's touching moment at an Ohio wedding over the weekend has gone viral as photos of the man stopping the procession, grabbing the stepfather's hand, and having him help walk their daughter down the aisle circulate online.
Dad Todd Bachman, 43, was all set to lead his 21-year-old daughter, now Brittany Peck, down the aisle for her wedding to Jeremy when he completely surprised the bride, groom, and their family and friends by inviting stepfather, Todd Cendrosky, 45, to aid him in carrying out the honor of walking
Peck down the aisle, according to The Huffington Post.
Cendrosky was dumbfounded by Bachman’s gesture.
"[Bachman] came and grabbed my hand, and said: 'You worked as hard as I have. You'll help us walk our daughter
down the aisle,'" Cendrosky said, according to WKYC-TV. "I got weak in the knees and lost it. Nothing better in my life, the most impactful moment in my life."
Although Bachman and Cendrosky haven’t always gotten along throughout the years, Bachman said that he knew this gesture was the right thing for him to do.
“For me to thank him for all the years of helping raise OUR daughter wouldn't be enough. There is no better way to thank somebody than to assist me walking her down the aisle," Bachman said.
Wedding photographer Delia D. Blackburn said that Bachman had alerted her beforehand, saying that he was going to do something special
during the ceremony, the Daily Mail reported.
“Everybody was shocked, silent, and crying,” Blackburn later said. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. Even I was crying.”
Blackburn posted the photos in an album on her Facebook page, which has received more than 1 million likes since the wedding.
“Families are what we make them . . . make it about your kids and not your ego,” Blackburn wrote. “Congratulations Todd Bachman on showing your kids what true love really is . . . love for your children. Please share so that we can spread kindness throughout!”
