DC Sues Nonprofit for Using AIDS Funds for Strip Club

By    |   Wednesday, 31 August 2011 01:13 PM EDT

The District of Columbia is suing a local nonprofit organization for $1 million in damages, saying it took money intended for a job program for people with HIV/AIDS and instead used the funds to open a strip club.

The suit, filed Tuesday in D.C. Superior Court, accuses Miracle Hands and its founder, Cornell Jones, of misappropriating $300,000 from the city’s HIV/AIDS program.

The money was supposed to be used for renovations on a proposed job-training center, the suit said, but it actually paid for renovations to a warehouse in Northeast Washington that is now the Stadium Club.

The club bills itself as offering “Five Star Dining and a Premier Gentleman’s Club Experience,” according to the Washington Times.

D.C. Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan said his office “will continue to be relentless in our efforts to recover government funds from those who have unjustly enriched themselves at the expense of the District of Columbia.”

Jones, a convicted drug trafficker, could not be reached for comment, the Times and MyFoxDC said.
