Calif. Cyclists Angry Over Being 'Jerry Browned'

By    |   Friday, 19 October 2012 01:10 PM EDT

California cyclists are frustrated with Gov. Jerry Brown for twice vetoing the “Give Me Three” legislation that would have required motorists to provide bicycle travelers  with at least three feet of space at all times in order to avoid accidents.

In retaliation, the cyclists have taken to calling collisions or near collisions with cars as being “Jerry Browned,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

In his last veto message, Brown explained that the law was a good idea but said it would have left the state vulnerable to costly lawsuits.

But the California Bicycle Coalition dismissed that claim, saying, “Concerns about liability were not raised by anyone during the last legislative session. Nor were they expressed during legislative hearings and floor debate.”
