The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology last week approved the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2011, a bill that coordinates research and related activities across federal agencies to better address evolving cyber threats.

By strengthening agency coordination and cooperation on cyber security research and development efforts, the bill will help address the comprehensive cyber security needs of the nation, said Committee Chairman Ralph Hall, R-Texas.

The bill is bipartisan legislation, introduced by Reps. Michael McCaul , R-Texas, and Daniel Lipinski, D-Ill. It primarily addresses efforts at the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The bill also strengthens cyber security education and talent development and industry partnership initiatives.

The legislation has been endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
