By    |   Sunday, 21 August 2011 11:26 AM EDT

Congressional Black Caucus member Elijah Cummings, D-Md., expressed frustration Sunday with the state of the economy and President Barack Obama.

“We are totally frustrated, and they need to know that the president feels their pain,” Cummings said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“He needs to hear that there are a lot of people suffering,” Cummings said, according to Politico.

Cummings, a strong supporter of Obama, said the president need to fight harder for jobs because the African-American voters he’s talked with are “totally frustrated.”

“Their attitude is...if Republicans aren’t going to work with us, we’re just going to have to work alone,” he said.
